Street Signs

Street Signs, originally uploaded by jasonstaten.

I took this picture because I always wonder who these people in the streets holding signs are.

It’s good to see anyone participating in politics. The only thing you hope is that they also read and vote based on what they learn and need in their community.

Why do they do it? What do they get from the person?

For me, money would not be enough… You better be able to solve some actual problems that effect me.

I think this guys name is Jimmy!

I met him riding my bike to work.

It was not so long ago that Shirley Franklin was running for Mayor. Now it is two terms later, she is stepping down, and Kasim Reed is competing with Mary Norwood for that job.

I remember Shirley Franklin was on a mission to fill in all the potholes and I thought of that as I rode past this area and saw the ripples next to the curb where the pavement is, for some reason, buckling.

During that race, I was working at Hot 107.9 known first as 97.5 and we had an on-air panel discussion. Ryan Cameron asked me to come in and participate. I asked the candidates including Mayor Franklin what would be done to improve public transportation, create a better infrastructure, and decrease the homeless population.

I never saw any of those things change or improve much.

I can’t remember in my lifetime really solidly being able to point at any one political group or person that revolutionized or changed anything. The problems are always bigger than just one person.

That’s up to the people.

I know that all revolution and all change comes from those who have the time, the energy, and the assumed freedom to work for change.

People like this kid and I hope that he changes something for the better.

Because holding signs and freezing his ass of for a politician isn’t going to do it.

I am pretty sure Jimmy can change something.

ahh the toilet

ahh the toilet, originally uploaded by jasonstaten.

There is nothing more inviting than the toilet designated for people with special needs. Its so roomy and that is where you always find the plunger. The vacuum/water pressure or “flush power” is great on commercial or public toilets. When you have that and a plunger at your disposal there is this feeling of fredom and power that is undescribable. You can just go and go with no restriction!

90% of the time it is cleaner than other toilets. It feels like you are in a hotel room bathroom at a nice hotel, but no obtrusive bathtub or shower is next to you! The reading light is always great in there too.

I however always have a nervous feeling that somone who truly needs it will come in or I will walk out and they will see me.

Do you ever think that when you are on the stool other people see your shoes and recognize them?

maybe its just me!

John’s 50th Birthday

John’s 50th Birthday, originally uploaded by jasonstaten.

I had not been to Ray’s on the river in at least ten years until I went to Brunch with my family for my brothers 50th Birthday. There is a huge amount of housing that freplacess what used to be foliage on the shorline. There also are huge largeley unpopulated buildings on either side of the resturaunt now.

That is okay because Buffet was great and I enjoyed the couple hours with my family. I gave my brother a book called The Jazz Loft. The Jazz loft, which is a collection of photographs by a photographer named W. Eugene Smith who recorded and photographed Jazz Greats in New York from 1957 to 1965. Here is a link to the book http://www.jazzloftproject.org/?s=book ! There is also a radio series produced by MNYC and NPR. National Public Radio will broadcast four parts on Weekend Edition begining December 6, 2009. The series will air on consecutive Sundays through December 27.

Rode my bike to the gym and found it closed today, so I rode back home taking a few pictures along the way. Headed to clean up the office and think about the upcoming week. I saw my shadow on the wall under the overpass and decided to take a quick flick. Hopefully in the next few hours I can post a completed “Rest of Dilla Vol. 1” video.

Twisted Ballons!

Twisted Ballons!, originally uploaded by jasonstaten.

We were in the mountains of North Carolina shooting for a couple days with Vistoso Boses , Marv, Cash, Billy Hume, his brother in law, and Billy’s sons Simon and Griffin.

Gabe and Hilena hiked back to the van and met a ballon maker from New Orleans before coming back to camp. The next morning when I came back to the van I found this piece of ballon art on tha antenna.

What exactly did Gabe and Hilena do to provoke/inspire the ballon Artist to leave this on the van antenna?

BE 350

BROADCAST CONSOLE #4, originally uploaded by jasonstaten.

This is picture of the inside of an old BE 350 console. The console as you know if the mixer where the various sources of audio that are sent are first combined.

This one needs some repair and cleaning.

So when I finally clean whatever is making this thing smell like a stinking parts warehouse in Detroit. I can test it and start looking for parts!

I think I am gonna pull the serial number and manufacture date and send it in to figure out where its been.
